Robotics Competition 2008 is a two-hour film that follows a diverse group of high school students and mentors from all over the country as they design, build, and operate intricate robots in regional and national tournaments. The competition is sponsored by FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology,) and attracts over 30,000 students annually. This varsity sport of the brain requires collaboration, quick wits, elbow grease and strategic thinking to succeed. Robotics Competition 2008 will chart the world of discovery, challenge and growth that five of these teams and their mentors will experience over the course of the competition.

The film also tracks several members of each team as they face unique challenges in life, family and the future as well as in the competition. Each individual story among the teams will focus on a different representative challenge that kids all across the country face to create a rich narrative experience.
